Options for cookies allows you to select the directory where Internet Explorer and Firefox save cookies.
The Start/Stop DISPOS connection button in the DISPOS - Options Window is used to Start or Stop the DISPOS connection. The button text changes to reflect the current state of the DISPOS connection
The DISPOS connection in GFF2 supports the Internet Explorer and Firefox web browsers.
When GFF2 is running and the DISPOS connection has been started, using the GID number (GID#) or the portion of the GID number (GID#) that has been referenced in DISPOS will automatically open the corresponding sequence or image in the GFF2 Image Window.

you can select Printer, Paper, and Orientation settings.
Click Ok to continue to the next dialog.
In this window you can select the image information — GID Number, County Name, Parish Name, or Free Text — that
you would like included as a heading on your print. You can also preview the positioning
of the image relative to the page size and orientation selected. Note that the
image information text is not to scale in this preview. Check the appropriate
boxes to include the desired information. You can add your own comments by checking
the Free Text checkbox and and entering your comment in the Free
Text text field.
You can also select what print Quality to use. Normal is often
sufficient, but if you have a high quality printer High may be a good
idea. Click Ok to print your image. Depending on your printer and the
print quality you have selected there may be a delay before the printer starts
to print.
GID number (GID#)
All images in Genline's Swedish Church Records archive have an unique
ID number — called the Genline ID number (GID#). The GID# consists of three
groups of period delimited numbers. The first group of numbers represents Parish
ID, the second group the Sequence ID number, and the third group the image number
in the sequence.
For example, 227.1.30500 would be
Parish ID Number.Sequence ID Number.Image Number

Automatic Update
When you start GFFinder2.exe an automatic update procedure starts. This
procedure starts by downloading a file from www.genline.se called latest_version.txt.
(If the download fails the error message "No internet connection found..."
will be displayed.)
This file is compared to the local copy of latest_version.txt. If the
files contain different version numbers or the local file does not exist, AutoUpdate.exe will start and download all files
needed for the latest version.
The files that are downloaded are engine.exe, some dll’s, and a few other
things. Then, engine.exe is started and it takes over the execution. The login
dialog appears and you can start working with GFF2.
If for any reason you want to download the latest version again, just remove the
file latest_version.txt.
If you want to download a different version than the latest official release you
will need to start GFFinder2.exe with a parameter. latest_version.txt
will not be downloaded and if you entered beta as the parameter beta.txt
would be downloaded. Beta.txt usually contains a different version number
than latest_version.txt so you will download a different version of the engine.exe
and dll files.
Proxy Servers
The traffic from GFFinder2.exe goes to www.genline.se through port 80
and uses simple HTTP GET commands. The traffic from engine.exe goes to gserver3.genline.se
and ipar.genline.se through port 443 and is SSL-encrypted.
To run GFF2 with a proxy server open the file proxy.conf and type in the following:
proxy=IP number to your HTTPS Proxy server
port=Port number to your HTTPS Proxy server
httpproxy=IP number to your HTTP Proxy server
httpport=Port number to your HTTP Proxy server
To run engine.exe through a HTTPS Proxy server you have to have version 2.1 or
later.
Installation of GFF2
GFFinder2_install.exe does four things:
- It creates a program folder and copies files.
- It creates desktop and start menu icons.
- It renames the help files and locale.conf to match the language
you selected when you initially installed the program.
- It adds GFF2 to the 'Add or Remove Programs' list in the Control Panel.
GFF2 does not install anything in the registry or copy any dll files to the windows
folder. So in order to make a manual installation or a remote installation all
you have to do is copy the files and create the icons you need.
User Name and Password
The standard location for configuration files in GFF2 is:
For older Windows versions: <drive>:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\genline\genline_family_finder_2\
For Windows Vista: <drive>:\Users\<user>
\AppData\Roaming\genline\genline_family_finder_2\
where:
<drive> is the hard disk drive letter where the users Documents and Settings are stored and
<user> is the name of the local user account logged in the computer
The User Name and Password are located in the file login22.conf. The Password field is encrypted. For security reasons the user must re-enter these two fields each time GFF2 is updated.
Auto Login
You can configure GFF2 to log in automatically by adding a row with the text auto=1 to the file login22.conf. This will prevent the login dialog window from appearing when you start GFF2 and you will be automatically logged in to the Swedish Church Records archive.
To do this:
- Start GFF2 and enter your User Name and Password. Select the option for saving the password
- Click Log in
- Close the GFF2 program
- Locate the file login22.conf.This is located in:
For older Windows versions: <drive>:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\genline\genline_family_finder_2\
For Windows Vista: <drive>:\Users\<user>\
AppData\Roaming\genline\genline_family_finder_2\
where:
<drive> is the hard disk drive letter where the users Documents and Settings are stored and
<user>is the name of the local user account logged in the computer
- Open login22.conf with a text editor such as wordpad.
- Add the row auto=1
- Save the file.
- Restart GFF2.
Next time GFF2 is started the login dialog won't be shown.
Note: The directory "Application Data" or "AppData" and its subdirectories are normally hidden. You may have to enter the path <drive>:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data directly in the explorer address field to access this folder.
